USU Ciptakan Mesin Hemat Energi dan Ramah Lingkungan Akan Ikut Lomba "Shell Eco Marathon" (SEM)

NSL/Medan - Universitas Sumatera Utara Mengembangkan Mobil Hemat Energi dan Ramah Lingkungan, Tehnology Mobil Hemat Energi dan Ramah Lingkungan ini Hasil Karya Mahasiswa Fakultas Teknik dan memberi nama atas karya ini “Mesin USU”.

Pada Senin, 30 April 2012 Rektor USU Prof. Syahril Pasaribu Mengungkapkan “Mesin USU” Tersebut akan diikuti Pada Perlombaan Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) Asia Juli 2012 Mendatang di Sirkuit Sepang Malaysia yang diikuti oleh 14 Team dari 17 Negara.

Dalam Perlombaan Tersebut, Selain USU Indonesia juga akan diwakili oleh 17 Team dari Perguruan Tinggi lain yaitu, Empat team dari Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Tiga dari Institut Teknologi Surabaya (ITS) dan Dua Team dari Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). Kemudia Tiga Team dari Universitas Indonesia (UI), Satu Team dari Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, Dua Team dari Politeknik Negeri Pontianak (Polnep), Satu Team dari Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM), dan Satu Team dari Politeknik Manufakture Negeri (Polman) Bandung.

Untuk Team dari Medan Yaitu Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) dalam Lomba ini Hanya Mengirimkan satu Team yang Diberi nama Team “HORAS” dengan jumlah 14 Mahasiswa dan diharapkan Kepada Team ini dapat Membawa semangat sebagai Perwakilan dari Kota Medan (Sumatera Utara).

Bukti semangat dari Mahasiswa USU untuk mengadapi isu tantangan Energi Masa Depan yang tidak kalah dengan Perguruan Tinggi lain yang ada di Indonesia Maupun Asia, USU sangat bangga akan Kompetensi dan Kerja Keras Para Mahasiswa dari Fakultas Teknik ini. Manager Team Horas Munawir R Siregar Mangatakan Masih ada Waktu beberapa bulan lagi untuk menganalisa kekurangan yang ada pada kenderaan yang sedang di kembangkan terutama dalam hal mengurangi bobot mobil. Untuk itu pihaknya mengharapkan dukungan dari berbagai pihak agar kekurangan-kekurangan tersebut dapat segera diminimalisasi terlebih mereka menargetkan bahan bakar sebesar 200km/liter untuk Mobil Mesin USU yang mereka ciptakan itu.

"Masih ada beberapa kendala dan keterbatasan, namun dengan dukungan banyak pihak kami optimis bisa mencapai target yang telah kami tetapkan itu," katanya.

Shell Eco-Marathon merupakan proyek pendidikan berkelanjutan yang menantang tim mahasiswa untuk merancang dan membangun kendaraan yang paling hemat untuk bersaing dengan kendaraan tim lain. Pemenangnya adalah kendaraan yang dapat bergerak jarak terjauh dengan menggunakan bahan bakar atau energi paling sedikit.

Para tim akan bersaing dalam dua kategori utama berdasarkan desain mobil yakni ketegori Prototype yakni untuk kendaraan berbentuk futuristk yang bertujuan untuk memaksimalkan efisiensi bahan bakar melalui elemen desain yang inovatif.

Kemudian kategori 'urban concept' yakni untuk desain kendaraan konvensional roda empat yang hemat bahan bakar, sesuai dengan kebutuhan pengemudi saat ini.

Tim-tim mahasiswa dapat memilih salah satu bahan bakar dari yang diperkenankan yakni Shell Unleaded 95 (EU)/Shell plus 89 (US) Petrol/Gasoline, Shell Diesel, Liquefied Pertroleum Gas (LPG), Shell Gas to Liquids (100 persen GTL), Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (100 persen Fame), ethanol E100 (100 persen Erhanol), Hydrogen, Solar dan Plug-In Electricity (Li-On).
